10 Great Places to Ice Skate in the Philadelphia Region
You don have to master your triple axel or perfect your toe loop in order to have a great time ice skating, especially given the largenumber of public ice rinks in the Philadelphia area.
Get out your skates (or, in some cases, rent a pair) and hit the ice at one of our picks below. Just make sure you have your gloves, some hot chocolate, and, in case you fall, UGG Classic Short some aspirin waiting.
It is the centerpiece of Winterfest, the celebration of everything we love about Philly in the cold: the Blue Cross Riverrink. Open seven days a week until March 1st, skaters can warm UGG Boots Clearance up at The Lodge, where the Garces group will be serving a plethora of toasty treats (the peanut butter s'mores sound particularly tasty). Admission to the UGG Boots Clearance Sale Winterfest is free; the Riverrink charges $3 to skate, but if you're a Blue Cross member, you'll be zipping around the rink at no cost. (101 S. Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society
We here at Philadelphia magazine named the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society the best place to ice skate in the region for 2014, and it is pretty clear why: This pristine Ardmore based rink claims to be America's first skate club. The membership only club does offer public sessions to test out your skills, plus a free Nutcracker on Ice performance on December 13th. Did I mention they sell Ugg boots in their skate shop? IceWorks Skating Complex
This massive ice complex in Aston has something for just about everyone: a public rink, hockey tournaments and clinics, figure skating, even UGG Bailey Button a beer pub with a pretty impressive draft list. However,the coolest feature is a late night midnight skate program on Fridays and Saturdays that lets athletes take to the ice way past their bedtimes at bargain prices.
